Meet a recent Microsoft Learn Student Ambassador graduate: Shubhangi Gupta

This is the next segment of our blog series highlighting Microsoft Learn Student Ambassadors who achieved the Gold milestone and have recently graduated from university. Each blog in the series features a different student and highlights their accomplishments, their experience with the Student Ambassadors community, and what they’re up to now.

Today we meet Shubhangi Gupta, who is from India and graduated from Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women.

When you joined the Student Ambassador program in 2019, did you have specific goals you wanted to reach, such as a particular skill or quality?  What were they?  Did you achieve them? How has the program impacted you in general?

My goal was to empower the student community and encourage the learning of cloud technologies.

As a Student Ambassador, I learnt to use Azure services to host a website, create a VM, make FAQ bots, and a lot more through the Microsoft Learn paths. To encourage learning in my community, I organized multiple workshops and conducted Hackathons and believe I have directly impacted more than 5000 students.

Along this journey, I never thought I would become confident enough to speak at prestigious conferences, including MSPInspireWomenCan (at 1:02:13) and Women In Tech with IEEE. This platform gave me many opportunities and I am grateful for it.

What was the one accomplishment that you’re the proudest of and why? Please give us details of what you did.

Picking one moment from the past 2 years would be a hard decision. Every event had some learning, but participating in Imagine Cup 2020 was the highlight. I was always inspired by the student projects in Imagine Cup and wanted to participate.  I never expected that we would get shortlisted, let alone be the India runner-up in the Healthcare category!

Participating was highly motivating.  It encouraged us to work more on our project, Raahee, and work for a cause. We took our project forward and since then have launched our app, which connects you to a mental health professional, and our website where you can find relaxing activities and blogs. We have an active community and have started our services of providing affordable therapy to all.

Via Raahee, we have been supporting hackathons and conferences by conducting mental health focused mini-events and providing volunteering opportunities to participants.

What’s next for you after university?

Currently, I am working on Raahee and trying to make mental health accessible and affordable for everyone. I am also a Hack Club staff member and aim to use my experience to empower more students around the globe.

I am looking forward to new opportunities and am an aspiring Progam Manager!

If you could redo your time as a Student Ambassador, is there anything you would have done differently?

Well yes! I wasn’t active on Teams and hence missed out on opportunities. I would have loved to collaborate with more Student Ambassadors and hear what projects they are working on!

If you were to describe the community to a student who is interested in joining, what would you say about it to convince him or her to join?

The program provides you various opportunities to learn and upskill. You will get to learn about cloud computing and Azure functions through Microsoft Learn. You can work on your project and join a League where there are mentors from Microsoft and the student community who can help you improve your project.

What advice would you give to new Student Ambassadors?

If you are new to the program, engage with other Student Ambassadors on Teams [editor’s note: this is the platform the community uses to communicate and collaborate]. Showcase the work you are doing and interact regularly with your Community Program Managers. Don’t forget to check the resources provided and make the most of the Azure credits you are provided as a Student Ambassador--you can learn a lot using Microsoft Learn. Participate in the additional activities like the Social Stories and the Extra Credit Club. And lastly, if you appreciate someone’s work, support them!  Student programs are about collaborations, not competitions :D

What is your motto in life, your guiding principle?

“Believe”. Believe in yourself. Believe in your own narrative, and you will achieve what you want.

What is one random fact about you that few people are aware of?

I am a big Potterhead. I can talk about Harry Potter anytime, anywhere. I might jump into a stranger’s conversation if it’s about Harry Potter. I have lots of Harry Potter merchandise and am crazy about it!

Good luck to you in the future, Shubhangi!
