This month, The MVP Blog is shining a spotlight on some of the community work our members are doing around the world.
In Europe, we are excited to hear from Patrick Guimonet and Chloé Moreau who recently held the Modern Workplace Conference in Paris. Here, the community learned more about Microsoft 365, Office 365, Teams and SharePoint, fully online.
When asked about what they did to make this happen, Patrick explained that he’s been helping to lead the Modern Workplace Conference Paris since it began in 2018.
“This year we had the 4th edition fully online due to COVID restrictions. So, the organization included a call for speakers, online promotion on social networks, keynotes rehearsals and recording, event space in Teams and event moderation and animation,” Patrick said. “For a 100+ sessions event, this was roughly six months of work.”
Meanwhile, Chloé had the honor of organizing logistics, helping plan sponsor videos and assisting attendees at the conference.
“I’m very happy to have been part of the organizing team for the second time and I can't wait to start preparing the next edition.”
Patrick said that he helps organize between 10 to 20 events per year and that he loves the fantastic energy that is created when passionate international speakers and more than 1500 attendees combine in the space
“Even if it’s a virtual space in Teams,” he noted, “a group of people passionate about a common topic can create an awesome event and opportunities for everybody. Jeff Teper, who did the keynote at our 2021 edition, started his speech by saying thanks to ‘the best community in tech.’ This makes me feel proud to be an active member of such a great community.”
Chloé said that when she first attended the MWCP as a participant, she felt the passion of each of the organizers and speakers to share, give their time and transmit their knowledge.
“It was during this first event that my desire to share and bring people together was born,” she said. “So, it's important to me to be part of the organizing committee to participate in this gathering, this sharing and to keep the community alive.”
When online events are well organized, they can be delivered in a way that provides an attractive format and an inclusive experience for thousands of attendees – either in person or on Teams, Patrick said.
He is also especially proud that more than 40% of this year’s sessions were presented by women.
Chloé said this experience helped her learn how to organize an event from A to Z: from finding sponsors, to creating the speaker's agenda and then setting up the platform for the event.
“Every day we learn and for me, each event allows me to discover a part of the organization of an event, whether it is the sponsors, logistics, technical, communication, and marketing,” she said.
“Staying organized, being versatile and being a force of proposal: these are the lessons I learned from this experience,” Chloé added.
