AzUpdate S03E07: Windows Server, Azure AD-joined VMs, Azure VMware Solution & more.

Hello folks, this week the one and only Anthony Bartolo (@Wirelesslife) is back to help me cover the news of the week.  We are discussing the newly announced Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate certification, the General Availability of Azure AD-joined VMs, the FedRAMP certification for our Azure VMware Solution and the preview of Multiple Private Endpoint for ML Workspace support.

Won’t you join us?

Windows Server Certification

Yesterday, at the Windows Server Summit, Microsoft announced a new Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate certification. This certification requires you to pass two exams:

  • AZ 800 (Administering Windows Server Hybrid Core Infrastructure)
  • AZ 801 (Configuring Windows Server Hybrid Advanced Services)

The objectives associated with the exams address knowledge of configuring and administering core and advanced Windows Server roles and features.  Both the traditional on-premises and the hybrid cloud technologies elements of these Windows Server roles and features are covered by the exam objectives.

Our colleague Orin Thomas recorded 2 videos covering the objective details of the two exams.  Check them out.

And

And some study guides have already been created to help you in your preparation.

More details can be found here.

Announcing General Availability of Azure AD-joined VMs support

You can now join your Azure Virtual Desktop virtual machines directly to Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) and connect to the virtual machine from any device with basic credentials.

The following configurations are currently supported with Azure AD-joined VMs:

  • Personal desktops with local user profiles.
  • Pooled desktops used as a jump box. In this configuration, users first access the Azure Virtual Desktop VM before connecting to a different PC on the network. Users shouldn't save data on the VM.
  • Pooled desktops or apps where users don't need to save data on the VM. For example, for applications that save data online or connect to a remote database.

This new functionality removes the need to have line-of-sight from the VM to an on-premises or virtualized Active Directory Domain Controller (DC) or to deploy Azure AD Domain services (Azure AD DS).

In some cases, it can remove the need for a DC entirely, simplifying the deployment and management of the environment.

Azure VMware Solution achieves FedRAMP High Authorization

On September 15th we announced that Azure VMware Solution received a Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) High Provisional Authorization to Operate (P-ATO) issued by the FedRAMP Joint Authorization Board (JAB), in Microsoft Azure.

This authorization validates Azure VMware Solution’s security and compliance for a wide range of public sector, industry, and enterprise use cases.

More information on this subject can be found here and here.

Multiple Private Endpoint for ML Workspace now in Public Preview

Multiple Private Endpoint for Workspace establishes the private endpoint integration between private link enabled workspaces, which can be used with more complex network architectures, and other Azure services such as Synapse and Data Factory.

This support can be used when you want to keep different environments separate and secure.  Some scenarios like Isolated clients and Isolated Azure Kubernetes Service are enabled for using multiple private endpoints.
